  • Netflix and Sony have expanded their partnership into a global Pay‑1 deal.
  • The rollout will vary by region, but Netflix expects the agreement to be fully active in all territories by early 2029.
  • The deal confirms many major upcoming Sony titles including The Nightingale, The Legend of Zelda, and Spider‑Man: Beyond the Spider‑Verse are coming to Netflix.

Netflix and Sony already had a deal in place that made Netflix the initial streaming home of a movie once it became available to stream. However, that deal was only for select territories like the U.S., Germany, and Southeast Asia.

This new deal greatly expands on the previous one by granting Netflix the same rights worldwide, a first-of-its-kind agreement.

Although agreed, the exact time when Netflix’s deal begins to take effect in a specific territory will depend on the territory and when the rights to that territory becomes available.

In general, Netflix says it is expects the global deal to have taken full effect in all territories in early 2029.

Our members all over the world love movies and giving them exclusive access to Sony’s much loved films adds incredible value to their subscriptions,” said Lauren Smith, Vice President of Licensing and Programming Strategy at Netflix. “Sony’s impressive slate of iconic film franchises like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and originals like Anyone But You have been popular with our U.S. audience and now we’re excited to expand that offering to our members all around the world.”

Some of the upcoming movies now confirmed to be coming to Netflix under the new deal include The Nightingale, Buds, The Legend of Zelda, and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Our partnership with Netflix has always been incredibly valuable,” said Paul Littmann, EVP of Global Distribution, Sony Pictures Television. “This new Pay-1 deal takes that partnership to the next level and reinforces the enduring appeal of our theatrical releases to Netflix’s global audience. It also further underscores the strength of our independence and unique ability to create meaningful opportunities that benefit our creative stakeholders, consumers, and world-class partners.”
