What You Need to Know

  • DirecTV customers get free access to HBO channels and HBO Max content from June 16–19.
  • Networks included in the free preview can be accessed on channels 501–511 in the DirecTV app.
  • The preview does not include access to the standalone HBO Max app.

DirecTV streaming and satellite customers can head to channels 501-511 right now in the live guide to check out the variety of HBO originals and more on offer.

The free preview of HBO Max officially started today (June 16) and is due to continue through Friday (June 19). Unlocked channels include HBO, HBO Hits, HBO Comedy, HBO Latino, HBO Drama and HBO Movies.

While the streaming service is currently unlocked to all DirecTV streaming and satellite customers, all of the available content is only accessible directly through the DirecTV app and website.

The free preview does not include access to the standalone HBO Max app.

Unlike satellite customers, DirecTV’s streaming subscribers have the added ability to access HBO Max content at any time during the free preview through the on demand section of the app.

Unfortunately for fans of Westeros, the free preview does come to an end just before the season three premiere of HBO’s House of the Dragon is due to arrive.

If interested in checking out the season three premiere when it does drop this Sunday, HBO Max can be added to most DirecTV packages for an additional $18.49 a month.

If considering signing up to DirecTV ahead of the start of the new season of House of the Dragon, new subscribers can usually get three months of HBO Max for free as part of a new customer promotion, along with three months of Cinemax, MGM+, Paramount+ with Showtime, and Starz.
