Philo has released an update which changes the way fast-forwarding and rewinding works on Roku players and smart TVs. The update appears to have already rolled out so users should already be seeing the change live on their end.
What You Need to Know
- Philo has updated its Roku app so a quick press of the directional buttons skips or rewinds by 10 seconds.
- A recent bug affecting fast-forwarding and rewinding on Roku has also now been resolved.
- Philo has been actively experimenting with different changes recently, including testing a new Record button.
Philo appears to have been testing a variety of fast-forward/rewind changes over the past few weeks so some people may have seen some of those changes taking effect.
The latest change appears to now be the new normal for Roku devices and allows users to quickly press the fast-forward (right) button to skip 10 seconds ahead. The opposite works in the same way, with quickly pressing the rewind (left) button rewinding 10 seconds.
Those looking to fast-forward or rewind for longer can do so by pressing and holding the right or left button like before.
Philo confirmed the change late last week in response to a Reddit post about changes to fast-forwarding and rewinding. Philo not only confirmed the change but also that it has recently been “testing and experimenting with rewinding and fast forwarding on Roku” in general.
For those that have been experiencing an issue with fast-forwarding/rewinding on Roku, Philo also confirmed that it recently discovered a bug and has since rolled out a fix for the issue.
This isn’t the first time that Philo users have ran into fast-forwarding/rewinding issues. Back in 2024, Philo fixed a problem that resulted in the fast-forward function speeding up to an unusable level.
Philo has been testing a few features and changes recently. Last month, for example, we reported how Philo was testing a new Record button alongside the existing Save button.
However, and unlike the latest fast-forward/rewind change, the new Record button is currently in the process of being removed again.
