Philo is currently working on a fix for an issue which affects the use of subtitles when watching live TV on select platforms. While subtitles work as expected for the most part, this specific issue raises its head when attempting to switch channels.

What You Need to Know

  • Subtitles on Philo turn off when switching live TV channels on certain devices.
  • While the issue mainly affects Apple TV, it may also be present on other platforms as well.
  • Philo has confirmed it’s a bug and is actively working on a fix.

Philo offers access to more than 70 premium channels and over 150 FAST channels, making it a good option for those that like to channel surf.

While subtitles can be turned on or off with ease while watching any of the live channels, they are disappearing when switching from one channel to another on select platforms.

For those watching on an affected device, the issue means they have to continually turn subtitles back on every time they switch channels.

Following a raising of the problem by a Reddit user, Philo confirmed engineers were able to reproduce the issue and that it is definitely a bug.

Philo also confirmed it is now actively looking into the issue and working on a fix.

The bug seems to be primarily affecting the Apple TV app. While that is the only living room platform confirmed to be affected so far, others could be impacted as well.

For reference, we weren’t able to reproduce the issue on Google TV, but it did seem to be present when using the Android mobile app – requiring the user to continually enable captions every time they exited one channel and started watching another.

Regardless of how many platforms and devices are impacted, it is an annoying issue for those that prefer to use subtitles while watching live TV.
