What You Need to Know

  • In spite of a 3% increase in usage, Streaming’s total TV share declined to 48.5% in June.
  • Largely thanks to the World Cup and NBA Finals, Broadcast encountered its first June increase.
  • Other than Peacock, all of the other top streaming services either declined or remained flat during the month.

Streaming ended May 2026 with a total TV share of 48.6% a new all-time high for the category. With 48.5% reported for June, the category encountered a 0.1% decline.

In spite of the decline, Streaming usage was actually up 3% on the previous month. The reason for the discrepancy is that the overall total of TV usage (across Streaming, Broadcast and Cable) increased by 3.1%.

Speaking of the other two, Cable ended June with a total TV share of 19.5%, a decline on the 20.4% noted for May, and an even greater decline when compared to the 21.6% reported for April.

In contrast to Streaming and Cable, Broadcast ended the month with 19.8%. Although an increase on the 19.2% total TV share for May, this was still down on April’s 19.9%.

According to Nielsen, the bump in Broadcast viewership was primarily driven by sports programming. In particular, the combination of the World Cup and NBA Finals.

A Good Month for Peacock and No One Else

When it comes to individual streaming services, Peacock appears to have benefitted the most in June, and particularly from Telemundo’s World Cup coverage which led to the service ending the month with a total TV share of 2.3%.

June’s share was not only up on the 1.8% in May and 1.7% in April, but it also resulted in Peacock’s second-best share of TV to date.

Peacock also massively benefitted from Love Island USA, which Nielsen says was June’s most-streamed title with 6.8 billion minutes across the month.

All of the other streaming services either saw no change or lost share. Similar to the Streaming category in general, this was primarily the result of total TV share outpacing Streaming’s share during the month.

Overall, YouTube remained in the top spot. After increasing from 13.4% in April to 13.8% in May, YouTube saw no change in June, remaining at 13.8%.

Paramount (Paramount+ and Pluto TV) encountered a similar fate. After increasing from 2.1% in April to 2.3% in May, Paramount saw no change in June, maintaining a 2.3% share.

Unfortunately for the rest of the streaming services, it was declines all around. After increasing from 7.8% in April to 8% in May, Netflix slipped back down to 7.9% in June.

Likewise, and in spite of benefiting from ABC’s coverage of the five-game NBA Finals showdown, Disney’s total TV share dropped to 4.6%, down from 4.9% in May and 5% in April.

Prime Video declined to 4.2% (down from 4.5% in May and equal to April’s 4.2%), and Warner Bros. Discovery dropped to 1.4% (down on the 1.5% reported for both April and May).

A Slow Growth Month for Free Services

Free services didn’t have any major winners in June.

After increasing to 3.1% in May (up from 3% in April) and registering a new platform best, The Roku Channel’s share dropped back down to 3% in June.

A similar drop was felt by Tubi. After increasing from 2.2% in March to 2.3% in April, and then maintaining that 2.3% in May, Tubi’s total TV share dropped back down to 2.2% in June 2026.
