Fans of The Walking Dead will be happy to know that the choice of where they can stream the popular franchise won’t be changing anytime soon. Well, there will be changes, but only for the better, as streaming all of the shows will be more straightforward than ever before.
What You Need to Know
- Beginning in 2027, the entire Walking Dead franchise will be available on both AMC+ and Netflix.
- The agreement brings the original series to AMC+ for the first time.
- The agreement also ensures Netflix becomes a permanent home for all spin‑offs.
Today Netflix and AMC Global Media confirmed they have agreed a new multi-year deal. Beginning in 2027, the entire franchise will start to become available to watch on both AMC+ and Netflix.
The co-exclusive global streaming rights deal covers all seasons of the original The Walking Dead series as well as the spin-offs, including Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon; The Walking Dead: Dead City; The Walking Dead: World Beyond; The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live; and Tales of the Walking Dead.
According to the announcement, the $500 million deal covers the next five years, and applies globally. However, the exact date the deal takes effect in a specific location will depend on the expiration date of any existing licensing agreements.
The Walking Dead Comes To AMC+ for the First Time
Up until now, fans of The Walking Dead franchise typically had to subscribe to both AMC+ and Netflix to access all of the shows and episodes.
However, with the co-exclusive global streaming deal removing any individual exclusivity, all seasons of the original The Walking Dead are now set to stream on AMC+.
Although many will consider the franchise to be synonymous with AMC, Netflix has held the exclusive streaming rights to the original show for so long now that it has never been available to stream on AMC+.
This deal now removes that barrier, finally ensuring the original show will be available to stream on AMC+ for the first time.
The news is just as good for Netflix fans, as individual shows will no longer cycle in and out of availability. Instead, and along with all eleven series of the original, all six spin-offs will have a permanent, stable home on Netflix from 2027.
There’s more good news for international fans too, as the deal extends the original show’s availability on Netflix to even more territories, including the U.K., Italy, Australia, and New Zealand.
