DirecTV is looking to make sure even more customers have access to their favorite Major League Baseball team through the addition of nine new channels for MLB clubs.
Key Takeaways
- DirecTV is expanding MLB access by adding nine new team-specific channels, ensuring fans in each club’s home market can watch local games.
- This move reflects a broader shift as more teams turn to league-run or direct‑to‑consumer distribution models.
- DirecTV now carries 14 such channels in total, following earlier agreements with San Diego Padres, Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, Cleveland Guardians and Minnesota Twins.
Over the past couple of years there has been a major shift in the way team games are distributed. Whether its MLB, NHL or NBA, many teams have opted to launch their own direct-to-consumer service and/or have the league distribute games for them.
In terms of Major League Baseball, a new agreement means DirecTV will now deliver an additional nine channels for MLB clubs that the league is producing and distributing games for.
The agreement includes the Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers (Detroit SportsNet), Kansas City Royals, Miami Marlins, Milwaukee Brewers, Seattle Mariners, St. Louis Cardinals, Tampa Bay Rays, and Washington Nationals.
With this new agreement in place, DirecTV customers in each club’s home territory will now have uninterrupted access to their local games.
“MLB fans can continue to rely on DirecTV to deliver their favorite local teams,” said Rob Thun, chief content officer at DirecTV. “We remain committed to working with the league and its clubs to keep loyal fans connected.”
These nine new channels follow previous agreements that ensured fans of the San Diego Padres, Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, Cleveland Guardians and Minnesota Twins have access to their team’s local games.
In total, DirecTV has now added 14 team-specific new channels.
The launch of these latest team channels also follows last month’s launch of the free MLB FAST channel on DirecTV. As the MLB FAST channel is a free channel, it was added to MyFree DirecTV, making it available to both paid and free users.
