DirecTV And Tegna Agree New Multi-Year Distribution Deal

DirecTV and Tegna have agreed a new multi-year distribution deal, bringing to an end a dispute that resulted in DirecTV, DirecTV Stream and U-verse subscribers losing access to a number of channels.

As is usually the case with deals like this, the finer details of the agreement were not made public. However, DirecTV and Tegna did issue a joint announcement confirming that the new agreement sees the return of Tegna’s 64 owned stations in 51 Nielsen designated markets.

DirecTV and Tegna greatly appreciate the patience of their subscribers and viewers,” the statement added.

Considering the channels were first removed on Dec. 1, 2023, subscribers have been without access to them for around 6 weeks. Shortly after the channels were first removed, the disagreement became a little more public, after Tegna accused DirecTV of not taking negotiations seriously.

Regardless of the disagreements over the past six weeks, all DirecTV, DirecTV Stream and U-verse subscribers subscribers should now find they have access to the affected stations and programming once again.

Earlier this month, Tegna and NBC agreed a new deal covering station affiliation agreements for 20 markets.
