DirecTV‘s Gemini and Gemini Air customers will begin to see another change to their interface over the coming days, thanks to the rolling out of DirecTV’s new ‘My Apps’ carousel.
According to DirecTV, the new carousel makes it easier for users to find content on third-party apps and services by bringing together the most watched, trending on-demand and live content from those third-party streaming apps.
DirecTV says the new My Apps carousel is becoming available for a limited number of existing customers beginning today, and the plan is for the carousel to go live for all Gemini and Gemini Air users in the coming weeks.
The introduction of My Apps follows the addition of the Your TV carousel earlier this year. Unlike My Apps, Your TV combines a user’s favorites with their most-watched content. As the Your TV carousel is based on the individual’s viewing habits, what one user sees in this carousel can vary greatly from other users.
While My Apps is likely to be more of a universal recommendation-based feature, highlighting the most popular and trending titles in general, DirecTV does note that users will be able to customize the order of the apps shown in the My Apps carousel.
According to DirecTV, the ability to reorder the apps makes My Apps “ideal for both content-bingers and sports fans alike” while also “eliminating the content rage that users of other content distributors encounter when trying to find their favorite programming.”
