DirecTV has added a huge batch of local broadcast stations to its MySports Genre Pack, thanks to 132 new broadcast agreements. The new additions arrive just in time for the start of the new NFL season.
According to DirecTV, the company has now entered into agreements with nearly every Top Ten, every 20, and 40 smaller broadcasters to commit their local ABC, CBS, and NBC affiliates. This is in addition to the Fox stations that were already available.
In total, DirecTV says the 132 new MySports agreements cover 650 local broadcast stations, including 160 active ABC, 156 CBS, 163 NBC, and 178 Fox stations. The MySports commitments are also from nearly all the nation’s Top Ten largest broadcasters, including Gray Television (121 DMAs), Sinclair (79 DMAs), TEGNA (52 DMAs), Scripps Broadcasting (74 DMAs), and Hearst Television (24 DMAs).
“We created MySports to provide consumers more choice and flexibility in their viewing options while creating exceptional value,” said Rob Thun, Chief Content Officer at DirecTV. “We have always been a sports leader, especially with respect to local sports, and appreciate the widespread support from America’s broadcasters in creating these more consumer-friendly programming options.”
The addition of so many local stations should now ensure that most MySports subscribers have access to their NFL or college football teams, as well as other sports programming offered by these local broadcast stations.
For any DirecTV subscribers now considering signing up to MySports, DirecTV is currently offering a $20 discount on the Genre Pack. The discount is applied over two months, reducing the cost of the Genre Pack down from $69.99 to $59.99 a month.
On top of the discount, the company has also confirmed that MySports subscribers will get access to the MySports Extra Mini Pack add-on at no additional cost for a limited time.
MySports Extra unlocks access to eight additional sports channels, including NFL RedZone.
