Amazon has become the latest company to increase the price of its hardware products, with Fire TV models now costing significantly more than before. Similar price increases had already rolled out for Apple TV and Roku devices.
What You Need to Know
- Amazon has increased prices across its Fire TV streaming device lineup.
- Depending on the model, prices have increased between $5 and $60.
- Similar to Apple and Roku, Amazon says the increases are the result of rising memory and storage costs.
Apple was the first to officially make the change, with Apple TV player prices rising by as much as $100. Then came Roku, which also increased the price of its lineup of Roku players.
In both cases, the price rises were explained away as a result of increased memory and storage costs and the need to pass on those costs to consumers.
Following suit is Amazon, with its lineup of Fire TV Sticks also having now increased in price. For example, the Fire TV Stick 4K Max has increased from $59.99 to $84.99 and the Fire TV Cube has increased from $139.99 to $199.99.
It isn’t just the more expensive models either, as the cheaper Fire TV Stick HD has now increased from $34.99 to $39.99.
Here’s a full rundown of the latest Fire TV price increases.
| MODEL | OLD PRICE | NEW PRICE |
|---|---|---|
| Fire TV Stick HD | $34.99 | $39.99 |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Select | $39.99 | $49.99 |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Plus | $49.99 | $69.99 |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Max | $59.99 | $84.99 |
| Fire TV Cube | $139.99 | $199.99 |
In a statement given to Fortune, an Amazon spokesperson confirmed the increases are a result of the company “facing significant increases in memory and storage component costs,” matching the line previously taken by Apple and Roku.
For reference, it is not just Fire TV devices that have now shot up in price, with similar increases also impacting Amazon’s Echo, eero, and Kindle lineups too.
