Following the huge news that Hulu Live TV and Fubo are joining forces through the creation of a new Disney-Fubo joint venture that oversees both businesses, Fubo has confirmed plans to launch a new ‘Sports & Broadcast’ service.
This service will seemingly offer consumers a way to sign up to a tier that features Disney’s premier sports and broadcast networks including ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SECN, ACCN, and ESPNEWS. ESPN+ will also be included in the service, according to the announcement.
While the new service may sound a lot like Venu Sports, that doesn’t appear to be the case. Instead, it now seems likely that Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery will continue with their plan to launch Venu Sports, with the new Fubo Sports & Broadcast service seemingly positioned as an alternative.
Disney, Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery had previously planned to launch Venu Sports last year, However, the launch was put on hold following a lawsuit led by Fubo that resulted in a temporary injunction.
With a new deal agreed between Disney and Fubo, the lawsuit against Venu Sports has now come to an end, opening up the option for Disney, Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery to resume their plans to launch the service.
For those that missed the wider announcement, the combining of Hulu Live TV and Fubo is not going to result in the combining of the services at the subscriber level. Instead, both services will continue to operate independently, albeit owned and operated by the same company.
