When it comes to sports, HBO Max has emerged as the streaming service with the most sports programming. This is based on data comparing the content offered by major streaming services like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Disney+, HBO Max, Netflix, and Paramount+.
What You Need to Know
- New data shows HBO Max accounts for 35% of all sports programming, putting it ahead of Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+, and Paramount+.
- Surpassing Paramount+, HBO Max also dominates live sports with 42% of individual games and events.
- Once Paramount Skydance’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery is completed, the company will command a major share of the sports‑streaming landscape.
According to new data from Gracenote, the content intelligence business unit of Nielsen, sports now makes up 5% of overall programming on leading SVOD services. In total, Q2 2026’s data points to 38,500 sports shows, episodes, sports games and events across the leading services.
At the individual service level, HBO Max was found to be the streaming service offering the most sports content overall.
According to Gracenote, HBO Max accounts for 34.7% of available sports. This compares to Amazon Prime Video with 24.8%, Netflix with 15.7%, Disney+ with 14.4%, Paramount+ with 9.3%, and Apple TV with 1.1%.
HBO Max also leads at the individual game and event level with 42% of sports content. HBO Max is followed by Paramount+ with 30% of games, events and sports show episodes.
Technically, this marks a change at the top, as Paramount+ was found to be the leader in individual game and event programming in Q1 2026. However, this was partly due to Gracenote not previously including HBO Max in its Data Hub analysis.
With that change now in effect, and HBO Max included in the data, the Warner Bros. Discovery service has jumped straight into pole position.
One aspect that’s worth keeping in mind here is the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Paramount Skydance.
With Paramount+ the previous leader, and HBO Max credited as the current leader, Paramount Skydance will soon hold a major share of the sports streaming landscape.
