If you’re an existing HBO Max subscriber then you may have noticed that your apps were updated to Max today. This is part of a planned rebranding to Max that has also resulted in subscribers getting access to even more content than before, including more 4K movies and episodes.

The launch of the new Max service also resulted in the introduction of a new plan, and this will be particularly noteworthy to those considering signing up to watch 4K content, as the new plan is the only package that offers 4K playback.

The new Ultimate Ad-Free plan costs $19.99 per month (or $199.99 when paying annually) and unlocks four concurrent streams, up to 100 offline downloads, and access to the entire Max catalog, including all of the available 4K titles.

Regardless of whether a new or existing subscriber, you will also need access to a compatible 4K streaming device. The list of supported 4K devices is unchanged from HBO Max and includes Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K/Cube, Apple TV 4K, Chromecast with Google TV 4K, and Roku Ultra, among others.

While reviewing airlines isn't quite the same as reviewing devices and streaming services, John brings the same analytical eye to all of his reviews and industry analysis, along with a special emphasis on what's best for the consumer.
