Support for Google as a Movies Anywhere retailer has now been restored. As a result, it is once again possible to sync movies purchased on Google Play and YouTube with the Movies Anywhere platform.
Key Takeaways
- Google Play and YouTube are back on Movies Anywhere after a Disney–Google dispute temporarily removed support in November.
- Users need to reconnect their Google accounts to Movies Anywhere to resume syncing purchases.
- Once reconnected, all past and future Google/YouTube movie purchases will automatically appear in Movies Anywhere libraries across devices.
Google Play and YouTube lost Movies Anywhere support at the start of November. This was the result of a dispute between Disney and Google, which also lead to the removal of a number of Disney-owned channels from YouTube TV.
While older purchases remained accessible via Movies Anywhere, the ending of support meant titles purchased on Google Play or YouTube after Oct. 31 couldn’t be synced with Movies Anywhere.
That has now changed. Following agreement of a deal between Disney and Google, support for Movies Anywhere has now been reenabled, allowing users to once again sync their purchases and access them across devices and platforms.
Affected Movies Anywhere users have already began receiving emails confirming the reenabling of Google as a supported retailer.
While back again, one of the effects of the fallout of the dispute is that users wanting to sync Google and YouTube purchases will need to reconnect their Google account with Movies Anywhere.
For those that have received the email, reconnecting is possible through the link provided in the email.
Users can also reconnect their Google account by logging into the Movies Anywhere website, and selecting Google as a retailer through the Manage Retailers section of the Settings.
Once reconnected, all new and older movie purchases made through Google and YouTube should once again automatically be added to the user’s Movies Anywhere library, making them accessible on all compatible platforms and devices.
