What You Need to Know

  • MS Now is launching its first direct-to-consumer subscription service on Sept. 9.
  • The new service will offer a range of benefits including access to 24/7 live streams and exclusive community features.
  • A subscription will cost $7.99/mo, and new subscribers will be able to save 50% on an annual plan as part of a limited-time promotion.

The new MS Now (formerly MSNBC) subscription service is due to launch on Wednesday, Sept. 9. While Versant, the parent company of MS Now, has officially confirmed the launch date and an overview of what the service will offer, granular details have yet to be announced.

Instead, the company confirmed a subscription will cost $7.99/mo or $79.99/yr. As part of a special launch promotion, new subscribers will be able to sign up for their first year at just $39.99 throughout the remainder of September.

“From the beginning, we’ve approached this deliberately. When we launched MS Now, our ‘We the People’ campaign was never just a tagline. Our mission has always been to inform, engage and empower our audience,” said Rebecca Kutler, president of MS Now.

In return for the subscription price, Versant says subscribers will gain “new opportunities” including the ability to “interact directly with the brand’s trusted journalists” as well as each other through exclusive community features.

This is in addition to “a new roster of contributors and experts,” additional original creator content and, probably most notable from the streaming perspective, 24/7 access to live streams and television programming.

The company also referred to the new membership option as its “first direct-to-consumer product,” suggesting more options are likely to become available in the future.

“Our Membership is the first step in a long-term strategy to deepen our relationship with audiences in ways that build on what they already value about MS Now, while addressing what consumers told us was missing from the news experience. We will continue to research, test, and refine this experience because we want it to be something that our loyal MS Now fans genuinely love, as well as something that future fans genuinely need,” added Kutler.

The company also said the new service builds on MS Now’s growth to date, which includes more than 3.2 billion views across YouTube and TikTok year to date, and more than 80 million podcast downloads so far this year.
