Netflix users with a compatible device now have the option of taking advantage of HDR10+ support when streaming content, providing they also meet the other requirements.
With HDR10+ being an upgrade on HDR10, those meeting the requirements will benefit from an enhanced viewing experience when using the streaming service. In particular, an improvement in the quality and accuracy of the picture.
Those additional requirements include:
- A Netflix Premium plan subscription
- Title must be available in HDR10+ format
- Device must support AV1 and HDR10+.
- The HDR toggle must be enabled in the Netflix app’s Settings section (on TVs and streaming devices).
The most notable of these requirements is going to be the Netflix Premium subscription. Priced at $24.99 a month for those in the U.S., this is currently the most expensive plan Netflix offers. If signed up to one of the cheaper plans, subscribers will need to upgrade to unlock access to the new HDR10+ support.
Other benefits bundled with Netflix’s Premium plan include the ability to watch on four supported devices at the same time, the ability to download on six supported devices at a time, the option to add up to two extra members, and Netflix spatial audio (where available).
As mentioned in the additional requirements above, specific titles will also need to be available in HDR10+ format. While Netflix has been slowly adding HDR10+ streams to new releases and existing popular HDR titles, this means there is still a number of movies and shows that don’t currently support HDR10+.
According to Netflix, the company will continue expanding its library of HDR10+ content over time, with plans to enable support for all HDR titles by the end of the year.
