Paramount Global reportedly held talks with Comcast, raising the possibility of the Paramount+ and Peacock streaming services being combined into a single streaming service and product.

There has been a good deal of speculation surrounding Paramount Global recently. Prior to Byron Allen making an offer to buy the company, it was reported that Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount had discussed the idea of merging and bringing their massive libraries of content together under the one service.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Paramount Global has had very similar conversions with Comcast. According to the report, Paramount and Comcast have recently discussed the possibility of “joining forces in streaming through a partnership or joint venture.” Citing “people familiar with the situation,” the discussions included the idea of merging the Paramount+ and Peacock streaming services.

As is often the case with reports like this, there is no suggestion that the talks will materialize into anything more. However, the continued theme of Paramount seemingly always willing to discuss the option of partnering with other companies would seem to suggest that some change will eventually come to the service.

It would seem that the idea of partnering with what normally be a competitor isn’t just reserved for Paramount. Earlier this month, Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery announced plans to launch a new joint venture and streaming service that brings the sports portfolios of each company together.

Considering the potential for this combined sports streaming service to be such a compelling product, it was recently reported that the Department of Justice now plans to look closer at the deal once it is finalized. Among other things, the DOJ is expected to look at how much of an impact the service might have on the industry.

Interestingly, the suggestion that Paramount+ and Peacock could come together in a similar fashion would also likely appeal to sports fans. With both Paramount+ and Peacock currently owning the streaming rights to a good number of sports leagues and competitions, a combined product would likely result in another interesting sports offering.
