Paramount+ is set to become the U.S. streaming home of the entire South Park library. The arrival of the South Park catalog is part of an exclusive licensing deal between Paramount Global and Park County, the production company owner by Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
With Paramount still in the process of being acquired by Skydance Media, and Paramount continuing to negotiate with Park County, the streaming future of South Park had remained somewhat unclear.
However, with a five-year deal now finalized and agreed with South Park Digital Studios, Paramount has confirmed that Paramount+ will become the home of all 26 previous season episodes. The deal also includes 50 new episodes which will debut on Comedy Central over the coming years.
“Matt and Trey are singular, creative forces whose fearless humor and boundary pushing storytelling have made South Park one of the most beloved and enduring series ever — more popular today than at any point in its history, and one of the most valuable TV franchises in the world,” said Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment.
The deal also now ensures that the latest season of South Park will debut on Comedy Central later today as planned, following a delay which saw the premiere pushed back from its original July 9th broadcast date. The season 27 premiere is also now set to make its debut on Paramount+ tomorrow.
“Trey and I and the whole South Park crew are grateful for this extension and this deal. We want to thank Chris McCarthy and Keyes Hill-Edgar for years of great partnership and are looking forward to continuing to make South Park for the next five years,” said Matt Stone.
Following the premiere, all new episodes are now confirmed to be available on Paramount+ the day after being shown live on Comedy Central.
“We are grateful for this opportunity and deeply honored by the trust placed in us. This is about more than a contract — it’s about our commitment to this organization, our teammates, and our fans. We’re focused on building something special and doing whatever it takes to bring championships to this city,” Trey Parker added.
