Peacock is finally available to download on a Samsung smart TV. As a result, subscribers are now able to stream on models other than those sold by LG and Vizio. In spite of the newly increased level of device support, there are some limitations for users to be aware of with the main one being the age of the Samsung TV.

Peacock launched in April of last year and was originally only available to Comcast Xfinity customers. By July, the service launched nationwide and with a much greater level of device support. However, smart TVs were mainly limited to LG and Vizio models at the time, as well as those powered by Android TV. Over time the service has expanded with the addition of Roku player and TV support. Although Samsung’s smart TV platform is not the only one Peacock has remained unavailable on, considering the app still can’t be downloaded on Amazon’s Fire TV platform.

Now the list of compatible TVs has grown through the addition of Samsung smart TV support. The app was already available to download on Samsung’s smartphones, but consumers now also have the option of downloading the TV-optimized app directly on a compatible smart TV through the Samsung app store.

Speaking of which, the support is currently limited to Samsung smart TV models dating back to 2017. Therefore, users of an older TV model from Samsung may find they still cannot download Peacock and stream shows, movies and sports without the help of a separate streaming player.

Getting started with Peacock on Samsung TVs

Existing subscribers will be able to download the Samsung app on their TV, log in using their existing subscription details and start streaming. However, those signing up to the service for the first time will need to choose between one of the service’s plans.

For starters, Peacock can be accessed for free after creating an account. However, the variety of content is limited compared to the other plans. Then there is the $4.99 per month plan which opens up the entire Peacock show and movie library, as well as originals and live sports including English Premier League. Lastly, there the $9.99 per month Peacock Premium Plus plan. This is essentially the same plan as the standard Premium plan, although all shows and movies are shown without ads.
