Philo has confirmed it is increasing the price of a subscription for Apple-billed customers by $4 a month. The surcharge will result in the cost of a Philo Core subscription rising to $32 a month.
The change is due to take effect on March 4, 2025. At which point, all customers subscribed to Philo through Apple will automatically see a $4 monthly surcharge applied to their subscription. Exactly when an individual subscriber will pay the higher rate depends on their individual billing cycle.
Although Philo has confirmed the price increase for Apple-billed customers, the company did not explain why it is increasing the price. Existing customers affected by the change are currently in the process of receiving notifications confirming the increase.
This change not only applies to existing subscribers but also new subscribers as well. Beginning March 4, all new Philo customers who sign up with Apple billing will automatically be charged $32 a month for their Philo Core package.
The easiest way to avoid paying the higher price each month is to simply switch from Apple billing to Philo. This can be done by visiting the Account page, signing in if required, and clicking on Switch to Philo billing. Likewise, new customers can avoid the charge by signing up directly through the Philo website.
Once an existing subscriber has confirmed and provided payment information, they will also need to manually cancel their Apple-billed subscription through the Subscriptions section of the settings on an Apple device, like an iPhone or an Apple TV Player.
These changes should take effect after the subscriber’s current billing cycle comes to an end. From then on, they should continue to be charged $28 a month, the current rate for a Philo Core subscription.
