Amazon Prime Video users now have another subscription option to consider, and this one comes from what is technically a competitor – Roku. Following its launch last year, Roku’s Howdy streaming service is now available on Prime Video.
Key Takeaways
- Roku’s Howdy streaming service has expanded beyond Roku and is now available as a subscription channel on Amazon Prime Video.
- Howdy offers ad‑free access to over 10,000 hours of content for $2.99/month, positioning it as a low‑cost option.
- Both Roku and Amazon frame the partnership as a move to deliver more premium, ad‑free entertainment options to viewers.
Roku launched its Howdy streaming service in August, offering consumers access to thousands of titles from a variety of studios, including Lionsgate, Warner Bros. Discovery, and FilmRise. This is all in addition to the company’s own Roku Original titles.
While originally only available through Roku, Howdy is also now available as a Prime Video channel. The launch marks the first expansion of the streaming service beyond the Roku platform.
Similar to signing up through Roku, those opting to sign up to Howdy through Prime Video can expect to pay $2.99 a month for access to the service. Considering this is an ad-free service, the price is lower than what many other streaming services charge each month.
“Our goal has always been to make great entertainment more accessible,” said Gil Fuchsberg, President of Subscriptions, Partnerships and Corporate Development at Roku. “Howdy offers quality content with no ads for just $2.99 a month, making it a superb value and an ideal complement to other subscriptions. We’re pleased with the response we’ve seen from our viewers and partners since launch. Expanding to Prime Video builds on our momentum and furthers our mission to deliver an ad-free streaming experience at a price that makes it easy for audiences everywhere to enjoy content they love.”
With thousands of titles available, Roku claims subscribers can expect access to more than 10,000 hours of entertainment after signing up.
“We’re delighted to launch the Howdy streaming service on Prime Video at an accessible price that delivers exceptional value,” said Ryan Pirozzi, Head of Prime Video Channels, U.S. “This milestone advances our mission to make premium content widely available to our Prime Video customers. Our subscription business’s continued growth demonstrates that customers appreciate the choice, quality, and diverse programming we offer through Prime Video.”
Howdy is currently only available as a subscription on Prime Video to users based in the U.S.
