Samsung has provided some insights into users of its free streaming service, Samsung TV Plus. These insights include how usage of the free service has increased in recent years, as well as the high-earning and spending capabilities of the service’s userbase.
What You Need to Know
- Samsung TV Plus is expanding quickly, with viewing time up 25% in the past year and a 92% retention rate after 3 months.
- Users of the free service tend to be high earners, with a median income above $100,000.
- With an affluent audience, high retention, and plenty of first‑party user data, Samsung argues Samsung TV Plus is an attractive platform for advertisers.
Considering the FAST category has seen continual growth in general, it is not too surprising that Samsung TV Plus has seen its own share of growth.
According to Samsung, viewing time on Samsung TV Plus has increased 25% over the past year, and across demographics and income levels. The company also explained the service enjoys a retention rate of 92% after 3 months, compared to retention rates of between 50-75% for some of the top subscription streaming apps.
Based on viewership and time spent, the Samsung TV Plus app is the number one FAST app on the company’s smart TVs, and a top-three app in general. And, citing a Q4 2025 TVision Insights report, Samsung highlighted its service has a higher rate of two or more people viewing together than only other FAST apps, subscription services, and even traditional linear TV.
With viewership and usage continually on the rise, Samsung has been heavily investing in its FAST service. The number of channels has not only expanded beyond 750, but the company has also massively expanded the content on offer — in no small part thanks to the various content creator partnerships it has forged over the past year.
Samsung TV Plus Users Are High Earners, and Big Spenders
As part of its Fast Forward: The Now & Next of Streaming TV whitepaper, Samsung also provided some additional insight into the financial power and buying strength of users of its free service.
According to Samsung, Samsung TV Plus users have a median income of more than $100,000, and a higher likelihood of having an income of over $250,000, compared to the average US household.
The company also says Samsung TV Plus users are more likely to own a luxury vehicle, spend more than $3,000 on clothing each year, and go on vacations both in the US and internationally.
All of which, Samsung says, makes Samsung TV Plus users all the more attractive to advertisers. Even more so when taking into consideration other factors, including the company’s ability to collect a wealth of first-party user data.
