Fans of Sesame Street will be happy to know that the popular program is coming to Netflix. The announcement was made today, confirming the streaming service will soon be the streaming home of new and existing Sesame Street episodes.
While the main announcement did not explain when the show will be available to stream on Netflix, the streaming service announced Sesame Street will make its premiere on the platform later this year.
In addition to the back catalog, all new seasons of Sesame Street will also be available to stream on Netflix as part of the same deal, beginning with an all-new, reimagined 56th season.
All episodes on Netflix will be available to audiences worldwide.
Although Sesame Street is currently available to stream on Max, it was revealed late last year that Warner Bros. Discovery had opted not to renew its distribution deal, leaving the streaming future of Sesame Street in question.
According to today’s announcement, the distribution agreement with Netflix won’t effect the existing agreement with PBS.
Instead, all new episodes will also be available to watch on PBS stations and PBS Kids digital platforms in the U.S., and on the same day they become available to stream on Netflix.
“This unique public-private partnership will enable us to bring our research-based curriculum to young children around the world with Netflix’s global reach, while ensuring children in communities across the U.S. continue to have free access on public television to the Sesame Street they love,” Sesame Workshop said.
