The Television Academy today announced the 76th Emmy Awards nominations, including the titles up for the Outstanding Drama Series award. With many of the nominees being streaming service shows, streaming services in general could be the big winners.
‘Outstanding Drama Series’ Emmy nominations:
- The Crown (Netflix)
- Fallout (Prime Video)
- The Gilded Age (HBO/Max)
- The Morning Show (Apple TV+)
- Mr. & Mrs. Smith (Prime Video)
- Shōgun (FX)
- Slow Horses (Apple TV+)
- 3 Body Problem (Netflix)
If the number of nominations is anything to go by then it looks like Shōgun could be one to watch out for. Shōgun picked up a total of 25 nominations, the most in the Drama category, making it a likely winner this year.
Speaking of the most nominations, FX’s The Bear is another notable nominee, after receiving a total of 23 nominations. With 23 setting a new record for nominations in a single year in the Comedy category, The Bear is another likely candidate for winning big at this year’s awards show.
In terms of the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series, The Bear will be going up against Abbott Elementary (ABC), Curb Your Enthusiasm (HBO/Max), Hacks (HBO/Max), Only Murders In The Building (Hulu), Palm Royale (Apple TV+), Reservation Dogs (FX) and What We Do In The Shadows (FX).
The ‘Outstanding Limited Or Anthology Series‘ category is another category that’s massively represented by streaming services. This year’s nominations include Baby Reindeer (Netflix), Fargo (FX), Lessons In Chemistry (Apple TV+), Ripley (Netflix), True Detective: Night Country (HBO/Max).
With so much attention surrounding Richard Gadd’s Baby Reindeer, the Netflix show is likely to be the frontrunner for the award.
For those interested in watching the winners as they are announced, the 76th Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on ABC on September 15, 2024 at 8 PM EDT (5 PM PDT). A replay of the whole event will be available to stream the following day on Hulu.
