Tubi‘s new Productubity Chrome extension basically adds a switch to the Chrome browser. At any point (for example, when the boss is approaching), a Tubi user can hit the switch and the movie or show they are watching will disappear.
The movie or show will then be replaced with a “professional-looking productivity article” to give the illusion you are actually doing something at work. Not just doing something, but reading up on how you can increase your productivity.
Once alone again, another hit of the Productubity switch will return the Tubi stream to the browser, with the content paused exactly where it left it, making it possible to continue watching from the point when the user was so rudely interrupted by their boss or coworker.
According to Tubi, the creation of the Productubity extension was inspired by recent research. Citing its The Stream 2025: Audience Insights Shaping Streaming study from earlier this year, Tubi found that 84% of Gen Z workers are already watching TV or movies while working, and 48% admit to lying to their boss about streaming at work.
With the study also finding 52% don’t want to return to the office because they’ll miss streaming during the workday, Tubi decided to create a Chrome extension that makes it possible to switch between streaming and a fake work screen with just one click.
