DirecTV is giving away free Netflix subscriptions when combining its streaming device with one of its cheaper Genre Packs. What’s more, you don’t even need to be a new Netflix member to take advantage of the offer.

Available to new customers, the free year of Netflix is being bundled with DirecTV’s Genre Packs and Gemini Air. Those that do sign up to the promotion get access to Netflix’s Standard with ads plan at no additional cost for 12 months.
Considering Standard with ads usually costs $8.99 a month, new DirecTV customers save over $100 on the price of the streaming service.
Following the first year, the Netflix subscription will automatically continue and be billed at the usual price, unless canceled.
While you do need to be a new DirecTV customer to take advantage of the offer, you don’t need to be a new Netflix member, as the promotion allows you to transfer Netflix billing over to DirecTV.
The Cost of Bundling a Genre Pack and Gemini Air
DirecTV’s Genre Packs are fairly new to the market and offer consumers a way to sign up to a live TV package at a cheaper price.
As these are genre-themed, they are highly curated to a specific group of networks. For example, entertainment or sports networks.
In general, MyKids at $20.99/mo is the cheapest Genre Pack available and when we tested the new promotion, the cheapest Genre Pack seemed to be enough to remove the cost of a Netflix subscription.
If opting for a different Genre Pack, the price could rise to as much as $79.99 a month. Also depending on the promotion, customers may find they get access to some additional streaming services at no additional cost.
For example, the $42.99/mo Entertainment Genre Pack bundles more than 60 live TV channels with AMC+, Disney+, HBO Max, and Hulu.
As this promotion also requires the addition of a Gemini device (DirecTV’s in-house streaming player), new customers can expect to pay an additional $10 a month on top of the cost of whichever Genre Pack they opt for.
Basically, $30.99/mo appears to be the very cheapest way to sign up to DirecTV under this promotion. For that price, you get access to the MyKids Genre Pack, a Gemini Air, and a Netflix Standard with ads subscription.
