YouTube TV is finally available to download on Sony’s PS5. Support for the PlayStation 5 had been expected for some time, but it remained to be seen when it would actually go live. However, the app is now available to download on the game console, for those who have managed to secure one.

YouTube TV costs $64.99 per month and provides access to more than 85 channels. What’s more, the live TV streaming service comes with a decent level of device support. However, not all devices and platforms are supported. Up until now, this was the case with the PlayStation 5.

YouTube TV has now updated its device support list, confirming that, in addition to the PS4 and PS4 Pro, the live TV streaming service also works on the PS5. In addition, a number of users on Reddit have confirmed the app is available on the PlayStation 5 and works once downloaded.

With YouTube TV now available on the PS5, owners of the console have an additional choice of live TV streaming services. Due to the age of the PS5, the console is not quite as well supported at the live TV app level as other devices, including the PlayStation 4.

The PS5 wait is over

The availability of YouTube TV on the PS5 was expected, although it remained to be seen when the app would actually go live. Originally, YouTube TV had confirmed that support would be available in early 2021. As the year went on, it still remained unclear when the app would launch. Most recently, indications pointed to YouTube TV going live on the PS5 by June. An ETA that has now held true, considering the app is now here and ready to be downloaded.

The launch of the PS5 app does come at an interesting time, considering the service is currently engaged in a dispute with Roku. Up until recently, YouTube TV was available to download on Roku devices and it is still available to use for subscribers who already have the channel installed on their device. However, for new subscribers or those who had yet to download YouTube TV, the live TV service is currently unavailable to download on Roku players and TVs running on Roku OS. Still, with the PlayStation 5 support now live, subscribers now have an additional option for watching YouTube TV, regardless of whether they were using a Roku device before.
