YouTube TV subscribers living in the Chicago and San Francisco areas might be interested to know that their local Nexstar-owned affiliates (WGN 9 and KRON 4, respectively) are now live, and a day earlier than originally expected.
In March of this year, YouTube TV and Nexstar agreed a new distribution agreement that covered 59 stations, including 29 CW-affiliated television stations, 26 MyNetworkTV affiliates, and four independent stations in Chicago, Washington, D.C., Oklahoma City, and Baton Rouge.
Since then, confirmation had come through that KRON 4 and WGN 9 would specifically go live on June 30. A day early than expected, both channels are now available on YouTube TV.
As a result, existing subscribers in the Bay Area are now able to watch the San Francisco Bay Area’s Local News Station KRON 4, and existing subscribers in Chicago are now able to watch WGN 9.
As mentioned, the arrival of these local affiliates is part of much wider channel agreement and it currently remains unknown whether any of the channels covered by the same distribution deal have also become available, or are planned to go live in the coming days.
For subscribers living in an area where there is an expectation of a local channel going live, it might be worth checking the live guide to see if there have been any changes. Not forgetting to make sure that the guide is showing all available channels and isn’t set to hide any from view.
For reference, some of The CW affiliates had already gone live in select areas, so some subscribers may notice their local CW is also available, and especially if they haven’t taken a closer look at the full guide recently.
