What You Need to Know

  • DirecTV and EverPass have reached a new multi‑year agreement to distribute NFL Sunday Ticket to commercial venues.
  • The deal settles earlier disagreements over satellite vs. streaming.
  • Businesses will now be able to choose how they get Sunday Ticket through DirecTV.

Technically an extension of a previous deal, there had been some doubt on whether the two sides would continue together following a dispute on how NFL Sunday Ticket would be delivered to commercial establishments. While EverPass favored a streaming-only system, DirecTV wanted to maintain a satellite option.

In spite of the differing perspectives, the two companies have confirmed a deal is in place and DirecTV for Business will continue to offer NFL Sunday Ticket to bars, restaurants, and other commercial establishments.

One of the ways in which the two sides appear to have overcome there difference in opinion is by expanding DirecTV’s role.

Now, DirecTV for Business will not only continue to offer NFL Sunday Ticket to commercial establishments directly, but it has also been named as the Preferred National Distributor for EverPass streaming platforms in the U.S.

“We’re pleased to partner with DirecTV for Business to expand access to live sports for venues. This agreement is about creating greater availability for bars, restaurants and other commercial businesses so they can offer NFL Sunday Ticket – and other live sports content – with flexibility in how they receive the service,” said Alex Kaplan, CEO of EverPass Media.

Essentially, if a business prefers the streaming route, they can still get it directly through DirecTV, who will take care of placement, billing, and back-end support.

The change means DirecTV is now directly incentivized to promote and sell EverPass’s Sunday Ticket streaming solutions as well as its own satellite packages

“For decades, businesses have trusted DirecTV to deliver the biggest moments in sports,” said Mike Wittrock, Chief Operating Officer at DirecTV. “This agreement gives businesses more flexibility in how they watch NFL Sunday Ticket and other sports content, with access to one of the most comprehensive commercial sports offerings.”

For commercial venues, this also now means they have more flexibility in how they get Sunday Ticket through DirecTV, including opting for their preferred satellite or streaming system.
