Google has confirmed a new YouTube Shorts row will begin rolling out to Google TV devices later this year. The new row will make it easier for users to find short videos to watch.
What You Need to Know
- Google TV will add a new Short videos for you row this summer, surfacing YouTube Shorts directly on the home screen.
- The row will be personalized to the Google account, similar to how YouTube recommendations already work.
- Although launching with YouTube Shorts, Google hints that the row may later include short‑form videos from other platforms.
With Google owning YouTube and Google TV, it should not come as too much of a surprise that Google wants to continue bridging the gap between these two platforms and services.
The latest example of this is a new Short videos for you row which is coming soon. While there are many ways to consume short videos on the internet, it looks like the new row will initially only be used to surface YouTube Shorts.
According to Google, the new Short videos for you row will begin arriving on home screens in the summer via a software update, and beginning with users in the United States.
As is the case with the rest of the content displayed on Google TV, these short videos will be personalized to the account logged in at the time, similar to how YouTube videos are already surfaced for platform users.
And, as these are vertical videos, it also looks like they will take up a fair amount of space on the Google TV home screen.
Based on the image provided by Google (shown at the top of this article), the height of the short videos row will certainly make the row feel more prominent than many of the other rows currently encountered on the platform.
While clearly designed to promote YouTube Shorts, Google has left the door open for the possibility of including short-form videos from other platforms and services in the future.
In Google’s words, this summer’s roll out is “starting with YouTube Shorts.”
