Angel Studios has reaffirmed its commitment to providing Guild members with value-driven entertainment through the release of a new ‘The Angel Promise.’ Comprised of three main pillars, the promise is designed to ensure movies and shows remain appropriate for the whole family.
What You Need to Know
- Angel Studios is formalizing its commitment to family-friendly entertainment.
- Comprised of three core pillars, The Angel Promise covers how content is approved and what it includes.
- The Angel Guild recently doubled its membership base, surpassing 3 million paying members.
Since launching in 2013, Angel has always focused on value-based content. For example, Guild members are able to consider and vote on projects submitted by filmmakers, ensuring those making it to production and distribution are in line with the values they expected when signing up.
As part of this commitment, Angel today announced a new The Angel Promise that the company is making to members and in relation to all future films and series.
The three core commitments of The Angel Promise are:
- The Angel Guild Always Decides: Films and series must score at least 70 out of 100
- Three Non-Negotiable Standards
- No Nudity or Sex on Screen
- No Misuse of God’s Name
- Language Standard: No use of the F-word, and no profanity in titles aimed at children 12 and under.
- Parental Controls: Member-voted age ratings and easy to understand story notes
While members probably already expected alignment with these values, the new promise appears to be an attempt to formalize them, and its commitment to maintaining them in the future.
“A PG-13 rating from the MPA isn’t precise enough for families seeking values-based entertainment,” said Jeff Harmon, Co-Founder and Chief Content Officer of Angel. “Our Guild tells parents what’s actually in a film, and our parental controls let each family decide what plays in their home.”
It would appear that this value-driven approach to content is proving popular with families. Last month, Angel announced its Guild had surpassed 3 million paying members. A huge increase on the 1.5 million members from a year before.
