We were going to call this guide the best time travel movies but quickly decided against that, as our list is missing some very popular titles.
For example, you won’t find Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Donnie Darko, Groundhog Day, Somewhere in Time, The Terminator, Time After Time, Time Bandits or The Time Machine, among others. While these movies are all definitely worth watching, they aren’t our favorite time travel movies.
We are also being intentionally vague with some of the descriptions below to avoid spoilers, and even though we’ve included trailers, we would caution against watching them, as some are a little revealing in our opinion.
With those disclaimers out of the way, here are our favorite time travel movies.
About Time | 2013 | 2h 3m
Why we love it
Travel movies often focus on romance and, in particular, the one that got away. While About Time is technically no different to those movies, we love how it is far more than your average change the past romance movie.
Where To Watch
About Time is currently available to stream on Peacock, with plans starting at $5.99 a month or $59.99 a year.
Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes | 2020 | 1h 10m
Why we love it
This was a movie we watched without knowing anything about it, and we’re so glad we did. For the same reason, you should check it out without any other information.
Where To Watch
Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes is available to stream on Freevee and Tubi, both of which are completely free streaming services.
Coherence | 2013 | 1h 29m
Why we love it
We love movies that are set in a single location and even more so when the story is strong enough to carry a limited number of characters. Coherence is one of those movies.
Where To Watch
Coherence is available to stream on a variety of services, including Peacock, Pluto TV, Prime Video and Tubi. If not currently using any of these services, both Pluto TV and Tubi are free services.
Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel | 2009 | 1h 23m

Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel is available to stream on Max, with plans starting at $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year.
Hot Tub Time Machine | 2010 | 1h 41m
Why we love it
A bunch of friends get together to help one of their own get over a breakup in the usual way — in a time-traveling hot tub. What’s not to love?
Where To Watch
Hot Tub Time Machine is available to stream on a variety of services, including Freevee, Netflix, Pluto TV, and Tubi. If not currently using any of these services, Freevee, Pluto TV and Tubi are all free services.
Interstellar | 2014 | 2h 49m
Why we love it
For those times when we are looking for a big budget, epic time travel movie, Interstellar is the one we turn to. Be warned though, this is a fairly long movie.
Where To Watch
Interstellar is available to stream on a variety of streaming services, including MGM+, Paramount+ and Prime Video.
Looper | 2012 | 1h 59m
Why We Love It
While Looper is all-on time travel, it doesn’t necessarily abide by conventional time travel rules. When you then add in all the action, you’re in for a highly enjoyable movie.
Where To Watch
Looper is available to stream on Netflix, with plans starting at $6.99 a month.
Mirage | 2018 | 2h 8m
Why we love it
Mirage is not just a time travel movie but also a murder mystery movie, combining two of our favorites genres together in one movie.
Where To Watch
Mirage is available to stream on Netflix, with plans starting at $6.99 a month.
Palm Springs | 2020 | 1h 30m
Why we love it
Time loop movies can be hit or miss but Palm Springs was definitely a hit for us. This is actually one those movies we’re happy to watch again and again. If you like Palm Springs, you might also want to check out Meet Cute (on Peacock) too.
Where To Watch
Palm Springs is available to stream on Hulu, with plans starting at $7.99 a month or $79.99 a year.
Predestination | 2014 | 1h 37m
Why we love it
We love movies with a limited cast and this one hangs on the performances of Sarah Snook and Ethan Hawke. This is also one of those movies where the less you know the better.
Where To Watch
Predestination is available to stream on Prime Video and Tubi, the latter of which is a free streaming service.
Source Code | 2011 | 1h 33m
Why We Love It
In addition to loving single locations, we especially like movies set on trains, planes and boats. On this train, Captain Colter Stevens has only eight minutes to stop a major attack.
Where To Watch
Source Code is available to stream on Max, with plans starting at $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year.
Tenet | 2020 | 2h 30m
Why We Love it
While we don’t love the sound mix, we do love Christopher Nolan’s less than conventional approach to time travel. If you can deal with the dialogue issues then this is definitely worth a watch.
Where To Watch
Tenet is available to stream on Tubi, which is a completely free streaming service.
Timecop | 1994 | 1h 39m
Why we love it
Timecop is a bit dated but we consider it a classic, and not just for the Jean-Claude Van Damme splits scene. If, like us, you’re a fan of movies like Demolition Man and The 6th Day, this one’s for you.
Where To Watch
Timecop is available to stream on a variety of services, including Peacock, Pluto TV, and Tubi. If not currently using any of these services, both Pluto TV and Tubi are free services.
Timecrimes | 2007 | 1h 32m
Why we love it
Timecrimes is one of those movies we avoided watching for quite a long time. That was our mistake, as it has quickly become one of our favorites. Similar to Primer (a movie that should be on this list), we love how this movie easily makes you forget about its low budget.
Where To Watch
Timecrimes is available to stream on a variety of services, including Redbox, Tubi and Xumo Play. All of these are free streaming services.
Triangle | 2009 | 1h 39m
Why we love it
As we already mentioned, we love movies set in a single location, with a limited cast, and especially on planes, trains and boats. Triangle checks all of these boxes for us.
Where To Watch
Triangle is available to stream on a variety of services, including Freevee, Peacock, Pluto TV and Tubi. Freevee, Pluto TV and Tubi are all free streaming services.
Other time travel movies that you can stream and we think are worth checking out include Demolition Man (1993) Project Almanac (2015), Synchronicity (2015), Time Lapse (2014), and Time Trap (2017).
Our Favorites You Can’t Stream (Right Now)
We focused our list on movies that you can actually stream right now, and without the need to rent or pay for a live TV plan. However, that meant we had to exclude some of our other favorites, including 2067 (2020), Deja Vu (2006), Edge of Tomorrow (2014), and Frequency (2000). Most importantly, Primer (2004).
If you do have access to any of these movies with a live TV plan then we would recommend checking them out. Likewise, if any of them are available to stream the next time we revisit this guide, they’ll almost certainly be included.
In the meantime, feel free to let us know your favorite time travel movies in the comments. If we haven’t seen them, we’ll definitely check them out, and we might even go back in time to include them in our list.
