CuriosityStream Increases Monthly And Annual Subscription Prices

CuriosityStream recently increased the price of its standard plan to $4.99 per month. Considering a subscription was previously priced at $2.99 per month, the change marks a fairly significant increase in the monthly rate.

Technically, the CuriosityStream price increase took effect on March 27th, so anyone attempting to sign up through the website in the past few days may have already noticed the higher cost. However, the company officially confirmed the price increase today during its fourth quarter and full year 2022 financial results.

According to CuriosityStream, the price increase was something that was considered overdue rather than a reaction to recent market conditions. As CuriosityStream explains, “we had long maintained our pricing despite the significant investments we have made to expand our content library and improve the user experience. We believe our new price points continue to represent exceptional value relative to other subscription services available in the market.”

As to be expected, the increase in the monthly subscription cost has also resulted in an increase to the price of the annual plan. A yearly CuriosityStream subscription now costs $39.99, up $20 from the previous $19.99 annual rate.

It is worth noting that the confirmation of the price increases are specifically in relation to “new monthly subscribers” and “new annual subscribers.” As a result, it currently remains unclear whether existing subscribers will also see an increase or whether they’re now locked-in at the older rates.

CuriosityStream does also offer a ‘Smart Bundle’ option which brings together subscriptions to CuriosityStream, Somm TV, Tastemade, Topic, Nebula, One Day University, and Da Vinci Kids. The Smart Bundle appears to be unaffected by the recent price increases, with the monthly price still set at $9.99 and the annual price still $69.99.
