DirecTV has now officially launched its new multiview ‘Mix’ channels. As Streaming Better reported last month, the company was previously testing these channels, offering subscribers the option to watch multiple similar-themed channels at the same time on the one screen.
While Streaming Better was previously only aware of five different Mix channels being tested, DirecTV today announced the launch of seven new Mix channels.
The original five Mix channels now confirmed to be available include:
- Sports Mix: ESPN, ESPN2, FS1, NBC Sports (Signature, MySports)
- League Sports Mix: MLB Network, NBA TV, NFL Network, NHL Network (Signature, MySports)
- News Mix: CNN, Fox News Channel, Fox Weather, MSNBC (Signature, MySports, MyNews, MyEntertainment)
- Business Mix: Bloomberg Television, Cheddar News, CNBC, Fox Business, (Signature, MyNews)
- Kids Mix: Disney Channel, Disney Jr., Disney XD, Nickelodeon (Signature, MyKids)
In addition to these five Mix channels, DirecTV also announced a new Locals Mix channel, providing the ability to watch ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC at the same time on the one channel.
However, unlike the other Mix channels, Locals Mix is only available in select markets where DirecTV has the rights to stream ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC local stations.
The seventh and final Mix channel announced today is Sunday Sports Mix. This Mix channel is due to launch on Sept. 7 and will allow select Signature Package and MySports customers to stream CBS, Fox, ESPN and FS1 at the same time on the one channel.
For those interested in checking any of these new Mix channels out, they can be found in the 910+ channel range and in the ‘Your TV’ carousel. At present, support for the channels appears to be limited to the company’s own Gemini devices, as well as Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, and Roku devices.
According to DirecTV, those using an Apple TV player or Samsung Tizen-powered smart TV can expect to gain Mix channel support in the coming weeks.
