Disney Plus new Verts Feature

Disney+ is about to become a little more TikTok-like, as the streaming service is currently in the process of adding vertical videos to its mobile app. The new ‘Verts’ mode begins rolling out on compatible devices from today.

  • Disney+ is rolling out ”Verts,’ a TikTok‑style vertical video feed in its mobile app, offering short clips from movies and shows.
  • Using an algorithm to personalize each user’s feed, Verts are designed to boost content discovery and engagement.
  • Disney plans to expand Verts over time, potentially adding creator content and additional storytelling formats.

Originally announced during Disney’s 2026 Global Tech & Data Showcase in January, Verts offer Disney+ users a new way to consume content. Specifically, the ability to consume vertical videos in a TikTok-like format.

Verts are initiated through a new Verts icon that’s now in the process of being added to the navigation bar on mobile.

Once in Verts mode, the user will be presented with a vertical video feed, and similar to other platforms that utilize vertical feeds and interfaces, Disney+ subscribers can easily swipe to move from one video to the next.

In terms of content, Verts are not designed to last long, so this won’t be a way to stream entire movies or series à la Quibi.

Instead, Disney’s version of short-form videos provides users with a way to stream specific scenes and moments from movies and shows available on Disney+.

As this is a Disney+ feature, promoting Disney+ content, mobile users naturally have the ability to add any of the titles featured in a Vert to their Watchlist. Likewise, it is also possible to initiate playback of a featured title while still in Verts mode.

Along with being a good way for Disney+ to promote its own content, the feature is designed to be a new and novel way for users to discover new movies, series, and more. And with a catalog spanning more than 100 years, many Disney+ users are likely to find the new Verts feature a fun way to discover that content.

According to Disney, early tests of the feature have shown Verts help to drive engagement. This is in large part thanks to the use of an algorithm that helps to make each mobile user’s Verts feed unique and personal.

Disney also says users can expect Verts to expand further in time, with future potential experiences including content from creators, as well as additional storytelling formats and content types.
