The NHL‘s Florida Panthers confirmed plans to launch a direct-to-consumer streaming service later this year. The new DTC service is launching in partnership with ViewLift, the same company who partnered with the Vegas Golden Knights and the Washington Capitals to launch their respective DTC streaming services.
Once live, subscribers to the Florida Panthers DTC service will be able to stream all locally-available games, as well as a variety of on-demand content. The service is also expected to arrive with support for a variety of devices, including smart TVs, streaming players and mobile devices.
At the moment, the subscription price of the new service has yet to be revealed. While it also remains unclear when the new service will launch, the announcement confirmed the service will be available in time for the upcoming season.
For reference, the launch of the service won’t impact the ability to watch games locally over the air. Alongside the streaming service, games will be available to watch on Scripps’ WSFL (channel 39) and WHDT (channel 9). This is in addition to a to-be-announced Fort Myers station.
“We are thrilled to partner with ViewLift to offer our fans a premier streaming experience,” said Mark Zarthar, Chief Strategy Officer of the Florida Panthers. “Our goal is to increase accessibility and ensure that all Panthers fans have access anytime and anywhere to view our games, and with Scripps Sports’ and ViewLift’s expertise, we’re confident our new distribution will do just that.”
