One of the complaints we often hear about Fubo is the additional RSN fee. This regional sports fee isn’t always obvious when shopping for a plan and only really becomes clear when signing up and about to make payment.
In terms of the cost, this fee can increase the advertised monthly price by as much as $16. For example, the cost of the Pro plan can increase from $79.99 to as high as $95.98 during checkout, depending on the location and the number of regional sports networks available in that location.
Fubo is now offering a new ‘Essential plan’ which somewhat deals with this issue. Priced at $79.99 a month, exactly the same as the Pro plan, the major difference is that Essential doesn’t include any RSNs. This also means that Essential subscribers aren’t subjected to Fubo’s RSN fee either.
While this is not going to be a good option for those that want access to regional sports networks, it does offer homes less interested in live sports the ability to sign up to a Fubo package without having to pay the additional sports fee.
That’s not to say Essential subscribers don’t get access to any sports channels, as they do, including Fox Sports 1, NBC Sports 4K, NFL Network, beIN Sports, and TUDN. It is just subscribers don’t get access to the regional sports networks that result in the additional monthly fee.
It is worth keeping in mind that Fubo has a habit of trialing different packages and plans throughout the year so it is possible the Essential plan won’t become a permanent option. Of course, if the new plan proves popular enough then it stands to reason that Fubo will continue to offer it in the future.
In the meantime, those wanting to give the new Essential plan a spin can sign up directly through the Fubo website. They’ll also get their first month for just $44.99, a $35 discount on the usual $79.99 monthly price.
