Hulu ended the first calendar quarter (Disney‘s Q2 Fiscal 2024) with 4.5 million live TV subscribers. Considering the service was delivering live TV to 4.6 million at the end of 2023, Hulu Live TV lost around 100,000 during the first three months of the year.
This has become somewhat of a pattern over the past year, with Hulu continually hovering around the 4.5 million subscriber marker. However, and as the number did drop down to 4.4 million at the end of the first calendar quarter of last year, Hulu saw a year-over-year increase of around 100,000 live TV subscribers.
In terms of the wider Hulu platform, Disney reported a total of 50.2 million subscribers. As this figure includes 45.8 million basic Hulu subscribers, which is up from the 45.1 million reported for the fourth calendar quarter of 2023, Hulu saw an overall (basic + live TV) increase of around 500,000 subscribers.
With Hulu having ended the first calendar quarter of 2023 with 48.2 million, the latest subscriber update also resulted in a year-over-year increase of around two million subscribers.
The first quarter was a notable one for Hulu, as Disney officially added Hulu content to Disney+, making it possible for bundle subscribers to access content from both services through the one interface.
The availability of Hulu content within the Disney+ app followed Disney’s confirmation that it was purchasing the remaining third of Hulu from Comcast. However, the two companies are yet to agree on exactly how much Hulu is worth.
