Max has now been rebranded as HBO Max. For those that missed it, Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed the change in May, explaining that it would take effect later in the summer.
That time has now come. Warner Bros. Discovery has officially confirmed that “HBO Max is back” from today and those visiting the website will now notice that the service has been rebranded as HBO Max.
Likewise, the apps have also now been updated across app stores to reflect the rebranding and HBO Max name. For those with the app installed on their device, they can expect an update to roll out soon enough that replaces the Max name and branding with HBO Max.
As a reminder, this is not the first time that the service was known as HBO Max. The streaming service was branded as HBO Max prior to its change to Max in 2023.
At that time, Max was receiving an influx of content so it was understandable that the company was looking to distance the name of the service from HBO to reflect that it offers more than just HBO content.
Since then, however, the service has lost a lot of that same content, resulting in what is now a more thinner and streamlined content library. All of which has paved the way for the return of HBO Max.
As part of the same changes, Warner Bros. Discovery also recently confirmed that it will split into two different companies. The separation will result in the creation of a ‘Streaming & Studios’ company and a ‘Global Networks’ company.
