The Fire TV Stick lineup has been around for some time now but the first-generation Fire TV Stick 4K Max was only released in 2021. While Amazon offers even more powerful devices, including Fire TV Cube, the Fire TV Stick is designed to be the most powerful stick-based device Amazon offers.

The same is also true now with the new Fire TV Stick 4K Max. Announced today as part of Amazon’s fall hardware event, the new Fire TV Stick 4K Max was advertised as “the most powerful Fire TV Stick ever.”

The second-generation Fire TV Stick 4K Max comes with a number of spec upgrades. The processor inside is a 2GHz quad-core processor and the storage has increased from 8GB to 16GB. As a result, the newer model is not only able to store more apps, but it is also better at handling those apps in general.

The connectivity is also better as well. While the first-gen model supported WiFi 6, the second-generation model features WiFi 6E, unlocking additional features, including support for the 6 GHz band. According to Amazon, “Wi-Fi 6E means lower latency, faster speeds, and less interference from other Wi-Fi enabled devices—and Fire TV Stick’s smoothest 4K streaming experience yet.”

Another of the notably upgrades with the new model is the support for Amazon’s Fire TV Ambient Experience. Once enabled, this Ambient Experience mode turns the Fire TV Stick 4K Max into an Alexa smart display, equipped with information, smart home controls, and more.

Amazon also says that buyers can expect support for Dolby Vision, HDR, and HDR10+, and Dolby Atmos audio. The new Fire TV player also comes bundled with an Alexa Voice Remote Enhanced.

For those interested in picking up Amazon’s most powerful Fire TV Stick to date, the Fire TV Stick 4K Max costs $59.99, is available to pre-order today, and is due to begin shipping on September 27.

If the Fire TV Stick 4K Max is more than you need from a streaming player, Amazon also announced an updated version of its standard Fire TV Stick 4K. The latest version offers an improved experience overall and costs $49.99
