Earlier this year, Fox Corporation CEO Lachlan Murdoch confirmed the company plans to launch a new direct-to-consumer subscription streaming service before the end of 2025. Today, Fox confirmed the new streaming service is officially called ‘Fox One.’
Fox also provided a slightly more detailed launch timeframe by stating that the Fox One streaming service will launch in the fall, and ahead of the NFL and College Football seasons.
The new streaming service isn’t expected to launch as a replacement for Fox’s cable experience. Instead, the service will be designed to appeal to those that aren’t currently signed up, and don’t plan to sign up, to a live TV package.
“We know that Fox has the most loyal and engaged audiences in the industry, and Fox One is designed to reach outside of the pay-TV bundle and deliver all the best Fox branded content directly to viewers wherever they are,” said Pete Distad, CEO, Fox One.
According to the company, Fox One subscribers will get access to all of Fox’s leading News, Sports and Entertainment branded content, including Fox News, Fox Business, Fox Weather, Fox Sports, FS1, FS2, BTN, Fox Deportes, Fox Local Stations and the Fox network.
Although the service won’t be targeting traditional cable subscribers, those with access to Fox’s cable channels will also be able to access the new streaming service as part of their live TV package.
While no details on the price have been provided to date, during the company’s latest earnings call, Murdoch explained the new streaming service won’t be a discounted product. The suggestion here being that Fox One is likely to be more on the expensive side.
It would also appear that the plan is to additionally offer Fox One through partnerships with other services, unlocking the option to bundle Fox One with other products.
For example, a bundle option that is already confirmed to be available after launch is the ability to bundle Fox One with Fox Nation.
