When HBO Max is rebranded as Max next week, subscribers will find out that there is no shortage of profile avatars to choose from. If anything, there may actually end up being too many.
Avatars are something of a new addition to streaming. As streaming has become more popular, the ability to create profiles for individual family members has also become more popular. In turn, this has led to an increased use (and selection) of avatars to further help customize individual profiles.
While HBO Max already offered plenty of choice when it came to picking a profile avatar, it looks like Max is about to take the choice to the max. In total, Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that subscribers will be able to choose from more than 350 individual avatars.
As to be expected, these avatars are designed to reflect and highlight the breadth of content available to stream on Max. In other words, users will find they can choose from iconic characters drawn from the vaults of Warner Bros., HBO, Max Originals, TLC, HGTV, and Food Network, among other properties.
Some of the new character additions include Harry, Hermione, Ron, Dobby, Voldemort, Professor McGonagall, and Hagrid from Harry Potter. This is in addition to Joel, Ellie and a Clicker from The Last of Us; Tanya, Portia and Valentina from The White Lotus; Peacemaker, Emilia Harcourt and Adrian Chase from Peacemaker.
In addition, as Max includes significantly more Discovery-related channels and content, users will find there is a selection of Discovery-based avatars to choose from, including Chip & Joanna Gaines from Fixer Upper, Guy Fieri from Diners, Drive-ins & Dives, Bobby Flay from Beat Bobby Flay, Jonathan & Drew Scott from Property Brothers, Dr. Sandra Lee from Dr. Pimple Popper, Trixie Mattel from Trixie Motel, and Annie Suwan and Kenny Niedermeier from the 90 Day Fiancé franchise.
Not to mention, there will also be a variety of sharks such as a Tiger, Whale, Hammerhead, Bull and Mako from Shark Week.
All of these have been added on top of the avatars that were already available. In other words, users will continue to be able to use avatars from Friends, Game of Thrones, Hacks, House of the Dragon, Insecure, Succession, The Big Bang Theory, The Sopranos, and The West Wing.
