Philo TV Customers To Lose T-Mobile Discount This Month

Philo TV subscribers receiving a discount through T-Mobile are set to lose that discount this month. While the exact date an individual subscriber will lose their discount depends on their individual billing cycle, they can expect to pay the higher rate at some point in July.

Philo and T-Mobile began offering the discount back in 2021, after T-Mobile made the decision to shut down its T-Vision streaming service. As part of the discontinuation process, T-Mobile offered TVision Live and Vibe subscribers a discount on either a Philo or YouTube TV subscription.

Considering the cost of Philo was $20 back then, the $10 discount took the monthly price down to just $10. An amount they have continued to pay ever since then.

This month, that discount comes to an end. Streaming Better can confirm the discount is expiring and will result in those subscribers paying $10 more each month for their live TV package.

Affected subscribers can sign in to their Philo account and check the Account section to see when their billing cycle ends, and exactly how much they’ll pay each month following the removal of the discount.

While this will feel like a price increase, it technically isn’t. Not to mention, once the discount is removed, the monthly cost of the subscription will be $20 for many affected subscribers. That’s $8 less than the price Philo currently charges ‘Core’ subscribers.

Philo takes a very consumer-friendly approach to price increases and has continually made sure that existing subscribers don’t encounter any price increases. Due to this, affected subscribers will only pay the price Philo was charging when they originally signed up to the service.

The End Of TVision’s ‘Philo For Life’ Discount

T-Mobile launched its live TV streaming services in late 2020. For those that wanted an experience similar to Hulu Live TV and YouTube TV, there was TVision Live. For those that wanted an experience similar to Frndly TV and Philo, there was TVision Vibe.

However, both services were short-lived and T-Mobile looked to soften the blow a little by offering subscribers a discount on a like-for-like service. YouTube TV for TVision Live customers and Philo for TVision Vibe customers.

Although there were various changes to this offer over time, those that signed up originally were offered what seemed, at the time, like a lifetime discount.

Here’s how T-Mobile originally advertised the offer.

Eligible Customers receive 30-days free Philo (base subscription current reg. price $20) and $10 off/month for as long as they remain T-Mobile customers (as determined by T-Mobile).”

While originally advertised as equivalent to a ‘for life‘ discount, it is now clear this discount isn’t for life, as it will come to an end this month for all customers currently receiving it.
