Philo subscribers signed up to the Bundle+ package now have the option of upgrading their HBO Max subscription to an ad-free subscription. As this is an optional upgrade, switching to the Standard HBO Max plan will increase the monthly cost of the Philo package.

What You Need to Know

  • Bundle+ subscribers can now upgrade their ad‑supported HBO Max to an ad‑free version.
  • Upgrading to the Standard HBO Max plan through Philo costs an extra $13/mo.
  • Upgrading also unlocks access to HBO Max’s live sports, including MLB, and NHL.

Earlier this year, Philo made some changes to its plans. Specifically, the Core package was rebranded as Bundle+. At the same time, the company launched a new Essential plan for those more interested in live TV than bundling services.

The big benefit with Bundle+ is that it only costs $8 more than the Essential plan but includes access to AMC+, Discovery+ and HBO Max. In all of these cases, subscribers get access to the ad-supported version of the service.

When it comes to HBO Max, Philo now offers the option to upgrade that ad-supported subscription to the ad-free version.

While doing so costs an additional $13 a month, that’s still much cheaper than the $18.49/mo HBO Max charges when signing up directly.

Existing Bundle+ subscribers interested in upgrading to the Standard HBO Max plan can do so by visiting Philo, accessing their account page, and selecting the new upgrade option for HBO Max.

While unlocking an ad-free viewing experience is the obvious reason to consider upgrading to the ad-free plan, another is live sports.

Unlike the ad-supported tier, the Standard HBO Max plan also unlocks access to various live sports events throughout the year, including MLB, NHL, NASCAR, and College Football.

Of course, as live sports are live, upgrading to the ad-free HBO Max plan won’t remove ads shown during a live sports event, or any live event in general.
