Samsung has now confirmed its free ad-supported service, Samsung TV Plus, has 88 million monthly active users. Considering Samsung doesn’t typically release user metrics, this announcement provides a rare look at how the free streaming service is doing.
According to Samsung, the FAST streaming service is now the most used app on Samsung TVs in the U.S. It’s not just the U.S. where the service is growing quickly either, with global viewership having increased 50% YoY. Samsung explained that much of the service’s growth has been fueled by Gen Zers, Millennials, and Gen Xers, who collectively over-index in the key advertising 18-49 demographic.
“The success of Samsung TV Plus reflects our commitment to delivering a superior user experience with high-quality content that resonates with consumers. When we embarked on this ambitious journey, our vision was to offer a premium streaming alternative that was both simple to use and free. The strategic bets we made nearly a decade ago have established a strong foundation for a service now enjoyed by 88 million streamers each month, and the path ahead is bright and promises continued growth well into the future,” said Salek Brodsky, Senior Vice President & General Manager at Samsung TV Plus.
With the service seemingly doing so well for the company, Samsung plans to continue opening up access to Samsung TV Plus in more countries. Following recent launches in Singapore and the Philippines, for example, Samsung TV Plus is set to launch in Thailand soon. Once live in Thailand, the overall number of countries where Samsung TV Plus is available will total 30.
As a reminder, Samsung TV Plus is primarily available on Samsung smart TVs and Galaxy mobile devices, as well as the company’s Smart Monitor and Family Hub lineups. For those without access to any of these devices, it is also possible to stream Samsung TV Plus directly through the website.
