The cost of a Shudder subscription is due to increase at the end of August, and for both new and existing subscribers. With this price increase, Shudder adds to the growing list of streaming services that have increased their prices in 2023.
At present, a standard Shudder subscription costs $5.99 a month. For those looking to save on the cost with a longer subscription, the Shudder annual plan is priced at $56.99 a year, which breaks down to around $4.75 a month on average. However, the price of both of these Shudder plans will increase in August for all subscribers based in the US and Canada.
Shudder has confirmed that the cost of the monthly subscription will rise to $6.99 a month on August 29th, 2023, resulting in an increase of $1 a month. On the same date, the cost of the annual plan will increase to $71.88 a year, which breaks down to around $5.99 a month on average.
According to Shudder, “Our updated pricing is part of our commitment to improve Shudder, so you have even more of the world-class entertainment you like to watch waiting for you.”
While everyone who signs up on or after August 28 will be charged the new rate, the date existing subscribers will start paying more for their subscription depends on their individual billing cycle. However, no subscriber will pay the higher rate before August 29th.
As this price increase only affects subscribers based in the United States and Canada, subscribers located in other countries won’t see any changes to their subscription prices, as part of this scheduled price increase.
For those that are new to Shudder, signing up to the annual plan before August 29th will allow them to get a year of service at the $56.99 rate (following a 7-day free trial), lowering the average monthly cost down to just $4.75.
Alternatively, access to Shudder is included with an AMC Plus subscription. AMC Plus costs $8.99 on a monthly basis, and $83.88 when signing up for a yearly subscription. If opting for the the annual plan, the $83.88 cost breaks down to $6.99 a month on average.
That’s the same price Shudder will be charging each month after August 29th, albeit without access to the additional content from AMC, IFC Films Unlimited, and Sundance Now.
