Sling TV: Day, Week & Weekend Pass Explained

Sling TV recently launched new Day, Week, and Weekend Pass options. These short-term subscriptions can be a good way to test out the live TV service before signing up on a monthly basis, or subscribe for just long enough to stream a new movie, series, or live event.

Before signing up for one, here’s a rundown of what you might need to know.

In this guide

Day, Week, and Weekend Pass: Price

Arguably, the main consideration with these new pass options is the price. Here’s how much is pass costs.

  • Day Pass – $4.99
  • Weekend Pass – $9.99
  • Week Pass – $14.99

While these prices are significantly cheaper than the monthly cost of Sling TV’s live TV packages, they are more expensive on a per-day basis.

For example, subscribing to the Week Pass for four consecutive weeks would cost $59.96, considerably more expensive than paying $45.99 up front for an entire month.

Likewise, paying for a Day Pass for seven consecutive days would cost $34.93, significantly more expensive than the $14.99 cost of a Week Pass.

In this sense, it is worth making sure you sign up for the right Pass to begin with, or a monthly subscription, as this can help to keep the overall cost as low as possible over time.

Day, Week, and Weekend Pass: Channels

Sling TV offers two main live TV packages, Sling Orange and Sling Blue. However, Day, Week, and Weekend Pass are only available with the Sling Orange plan.

Notable channels included with Day, Week, and Weekend Pass include:

  • A&E
  • AMC
  • CNN
  • Comedy Central
  • Disney Channel
  • ESPN
  • ESPN2
  • ESPN3
  • Food Network
  • HGTV
  • Investigation Discovery
  • Nick Jr.
  • TBS
  • TNT

Sling Orange provides access to more than 30 live TV channels in total, and while it is a good option for the likes of Disney and ESPN, it isn’t a good choice for those wanting access to the NBCUniversal family of channels.

Day, Week, and Weekend Pass: Add-Ons

One of the added benefits of the new Day, Week, and Weekend Pass by Sling is that subscribers can add additional channel packs (Extras) to increase the number and variety of channels they have access to.

Sling offers a variety of Extra add-ons with each one themed in some way. Each of these add-ons cost an additional $1 when bundled with Day Pass, $2 when bundled with Weekend Pass, and $3 when bundled with Week Pass.

Extras Available To Bundle

  • Sports Extra: Includes SEC Network, ACC Network, ESPNU, NBA TV, and more.
  • News Extra: Includes NewsMax, NewsNation, OAN Network, Law & Crime, Science Channel, and more.
  • Entertainment Extra: Includes Paramount Network, MTV, Game Show Network, TV Land and more.
  • Hollywood Extra: Includes Turner Classic Movies, SundanceTV, REELZ, and more.
  • Lifestyle Extra: Includes Hallmark Channel, VH1, Lifetime Movie Network, and more.
  • Heartland Extra: Includes Great American Family, Outdoor Channel, INSP, and more.
  • Kids Extra: Includes Disney Junior, Disney XD, NickToons, TeenNick, and more.

As to be expected, these add-ons will only remain available for the duration of the pass. Due to this, subscribers will want to consider bundling any of these add-ons when purchasing the pass to maximize how long they have access to the additional content.

Day, Week, and Weekend Pass: DVR

Sling offers all subscribers a 50-hour DVR and those signed up to one of the new pass options are no exception. This makes it possible for Day, Week, and Weekend Pass subscribers to record content to watch at a later time.

Similar to the Extra add-ons, these recordings will only remain available for the duration of the pass purchased. Once the pass has expired, access to the recorded content will be lost.

If, however, the subscriber signs up for a new pass, they will regain access to any recordings made during a previous Day, Week, or Weekend Pass window.
