Sling TV Replaces ‘DVR Plus’ With ‘Unlimited DVR’ For All New And Existing Users

Sling TV has made a major change to its DVR, upgrading the paid DVR Plus add-on to an Unlimited DVR add-on. The previous DVR Plus add-on only provided subscribers with the ability to record up to 200 hours of content.

Sling appears to have been slowly rolling out the upgrade over the past few days, so some subscribers may have already received a notification and seen the change. For those that are signing up to the service as a new subscriber, the unlimited DVR is available beginning today as a paid add-on.

Sling’s Unlimited DVR (formerly DVR Plus) costs an additional $5 a month. For those less interested in paying extra for a DVR, Sling continues to offer a free DVR which provides users with the ability to record up to 50 hours.

With Unlimited DVR and our exclusive Auto Record, Sling TV continues to redefine what value and convenience look like for streaming customers,” said Seth Van Sickel, senior vice president, Product and Operations, Dish Video Services. “This enhancement ensures that our subscribers can capture and enjoy their favorite shows, movies, and events on their terms, anytime and anywhere.”

While now unlimited in terms of the amount of content that can be recorded, recordings are now only kept for a maximum of nine months. Even though the older DVR Plus version was limited in terms of the number of hours, subscribers were able to ‘lock’ those recordings and keep them for as long as they wanted, including permanently.

With the new limitation now in effect, subscribers will need to be more mindful of their DVR library and when recordings are set to expire. In a bid to help with this, Sling has introduced a 30-day countdown that now highlights any recordings that are set to be automatically deleted within the next few weeks.
