Starz closed out the third calendar quarter of 2024 (Lionsgate fiscal Q2 2025) with 20.1 million North American subscribers. The update confirms a subscriber loss during the most recent quarter.
As Starz ended the second calendar quarter of 2024 (Lionsgate fiscal Q1) with 21.3 million subscribers in North America, the service lost around 1.15 million subscribers between July and September.
Likewise, with Starz having ended the third calendar quarter of 2023 with 21.94 million North American subscribers, the service lost around 1.8 million subscribers over the past year.
Starz has consistently been losing linear subscribers over the last couple of years, and that was also the case in the most recent quarter as well. Looking at the breakdown of the third calendar quarter and the number of North American linear subscribers declined to 7.75 million (down from 8.1 million).
While the streaming side of Starz is usually more positive, that wasn’t the case in the most recent quarter. After finishing the previous quarter with 13.2 million streaming subscribers, Starz closed out the last quarter with 12.4 million, resulting in a drop of around 800,000 subscribers.
With Lionsgate also reporting Starz subscriber declines in international markets, the total number of subscribers declined from 27.17 million in calendar Q2 to 25.66 million in calendar Q3, a loss of around 1.5 million subscribers.
Similar to the North American market, this total subscriber loss not only included a linear subscriber decline (from 8.1 to 7.75 million) but also a streaming subscriber decline (from 19.07 to 17.97 million).
